Abigail Sedgwick

MA, NCC, Provisionally Licensed Counselor

Abigail utilizes an Adlerian approach to counseling and believes that clients have the ability to create positive change in their lives. She approaches therapy as a collaborative effort and works with clients to explore their unique experiences, needs, strengths, and goals to support the identification of patterns that may be holding clients back. Her approach uses Adlerian principles like early recollections, lifestyle assessments, and exploring social interests and support. Abigail emphasizes creating a safe and encouraging environment that allows clients to feel empowered to explore thoughts and feelings, challenge faulty thinking, and work to develop adaptive thoughts and behaviors. While Adlerian Theory explains Abigail’s theoretical approach to counseling, her application of technique is often eclectic. With training and experience in Attachment Theory, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Polyvagal Theory, Narrative Therapy, Brainspotting, and other modalities, Abigail is comfortable and competent to provide treatments and techniques tailored to meet the specific and individual needs of each client. Abigail approaches counseling with a Biblical worldview, meaning that she believes that God and the Bible provide a thorough and helpful framework for learning and healing; theories and techniques used in counseling with Abigail are supported both in peer-reviewed literature and the Bible. In line with ethical standards, Abigail prioritizes understanding client’s individual views and beliefs and utilizes Adlerian principles and assessments to ensure client’s values are understood and respected. Abigail has experience working with clients with anxiety, depression, life changes, spiritual issues, religious trauma, Church hurt, sexuality or sexual health concerns, anger, trauma, professional athletes, age-related challenges, and issues related to chronic illness or life-changing injury.
